"A.K.G Memorial Co-operative College of Nursing”, a unit of Kannur Co-operative Hospital Society Ltd.No.C-834,was envisioned and established in August 2008 as a memorial of Sri.A.K.Gopalan (AKG). Sri. A.K Gopalan was a renowned politician, a fabulous orator and a great Parliamentarian in the Indian history and a person who toiled his life throughout for the upliftment of poor and downtrodden. AKGMCCON is one of the leading icon among the reputed nursing colleges all over India.
AKGMCCON is functioning in its new building from 2010 December onwards, at Mavilayi- the native place of Sri. AKG, more over a salubrious hilly area 10km west of Kannur town, away from the buzz and pollution of Kannur City.

A.K.Gopalan was a renowned politician, a fabulous orator and a great parliamentarian hailing from Kannur district, who toiled through out his life for the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden. Adequate infrastructure facilities as per the norms of statutory bodies namely INC, KNC and KUHS and the use of modern educational technologies in the teaching - learning process is the significant feature of our institution.
We have nearly well equipped 8 classrooms furnished with sophisticated teaching aids like LCD projector, overhead projectors. The lab facilities for the training of students includes Preclinical lab, Maternal And Child Health nursing lab, Nutrition lab, Computer lab with Internet facilities, AVaids lab, community health nursing lab with more than enough articles and instruments including models, simulators etc. Also we have digitalized examination hall too. The library is equipped with more than 3000 books and magazines, national and international journals including e - journals. Presently we have rented hostels but own hostels are under construction nearby to the college in the campus itself. The college is also fortunate to have a mini conference hall for conducting official meetings and an echofriendly 300 seated auditorium.
The zealous and dedicated management of Kannur Co-op hospital society commenced regular BSc (N) programme during the year 2008 with an annual intake of 50 seats has now grown to a prestigious educational institution and Post Basic Bsc Nursing course is commenced in the year 2012-13 with an annual intake of 30 seats. Also we have a plan to commence short term certificate courses in nursing and MSc nursing programmes in the nearby future itself.
Our mission is to uplift people of various sector, especially those in poor and middle income groups as well as to meet the increased demand for professional nurses throughout the world by providing scientific nursing education, leading to bachelor of science in nursing, so that they function as resourceful members of health care delivery system.
We shall strive to establish a Nursing Institute of International standard for providing high quality education, to prepare dedicated nursing professionals to function effectively in various roles such as nurse clinician, nurse practitioner, nurse educator, nurse researcher and so on.
We faculty, A.K.G Memorial Co-Operative College of Nursing believes that, health is a state of well-being that enables a person to lead a psychologically, socially and economically productive life. Health is a right of all the people. Individuals, families and communities have a responsibility towards maintaining their health. Nursing contributes to the health services in a vital and significant way in the health care delivery system. It recognizes national health goals and is committed to participate in the implementation of National Health policies and programmes. It aims at identifying health needs of the people, planning and providing quality care in collaboration with other health professionals and community groups.
Scope of nursing practice encompasses provision of promotive, preventive, curative and rehabilitative aspects of care to people across their life span in wide variety of health care settings. Practice of nursing is based upon application of basic concepts and principles derived from the physical, biological and behavioral sciences, medicine and nursing.
Nursing is based on values of caring, and aims to help individuals to attain independence in self-care. It necessitates development of compassion and understanding of human behaviour among its practitioners to provide care with respect and dignity and protect the rights of individuals & groups. It also aims to provide employments for the educated unemployed persons.
